Otakon is always a Blast

Thu Jul 23, 2009, 12:32 PM
Well,
This years Otakon was great, I know alot of people live the complain about the staff and how they do things but it's really a selfless job. Considering it was done in a rush I'm impressed. Most of my beef from this con comes from my fellow artists and the total disregard for others.

1. If you need people behind your table to help you then thats cool. The table helper option is not so your friends can just sit behind your table all day, eating, sleeping, playing boardgames.....etc. At certain points I had felt squished into my table because these people needed all possible space behind me to lounge around.

2. Fan-Art buttons: This topic was beat-to-death on otakon's forums this year. In the end it's really the problem of the staff not following through with rules they announce, but part of the blame lies with the artists cough"posers"cough. I say this because knowing the rules and bringing these to sell is like thumbing your nose and doing whatever you want......which is very similar to a "artist" at last years con breaking the rules. So in the end you are no better than that craphound shiny desu artist for how you treat your fellow alley artists. You can rave all you want about how selling #'d prints is no different but it is......buttons are a very specific license item, and I can guarantee you don't own those rights......otherwise you'd be in the dealer's room. We have stuck to the rule for years of not selling character buttons because we felt it was wrong....too bad alot of these people didn't have the integrity.

Sorry, really swore I wasn't gonna rant about this, guess I kinda failed on that.

Beautiful gallery. I especially like pencils and airbrushed background combo, it creates quite a unique blend in a painting. Keep it up!

Josh! This is Kevin from across your table in the Alley. Thanks for your mech print trade and the advice on using Prismacolor pencils. I'm looking forward to hearing from you again; keep up with the fan mech designs, and hope to see more original work from you, too...

It was great seeing another mecha artist, few and far between for us. Np on the pencil tip, should be easy since you got me beat by a long shot on the original mecha....lol. Definitely keep in touch on here and I'm sure we'll be able to trade experience. later man
